The Exotronic Noosa 50 Plus pre-wired board, with its Orion XS, SmartSolar 100/50, Blue Smart IP22 charger and SmartShunt called out

Exotronic Noosa 50 Plus: a charging board without the inverter

Short answer: the Noosa 50 Plus is a charging board, not a full power system. It puts three Victron chargers (alternator, solar and 230 V mains) and a SmartShunt on one small, pre-wired board for a 12V lithium or lead-acid battery. There's no inverter, so it suits a caravan, camper or van that runs on 12V and wants every charging source sorted without the wiring headache. If you need 230 V from the battery, look at the Coorong instead, or add an inverter later.

The listing says lead times vary, so check with us before ordering.

What's on the board?

From Exotronic:

  • Victron Orion XS 50 A DC-DC charger for charging from the alternator, on a blue 50 A Anderson plug to the start battery.
  • Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/50 for the panels, on a grey 50 A Anderson plug, with a 50 A Noark PV isolation switch on the solar input.
  • Victron Blue Smart IP22 12/30 mains charger for charging from shore power (it plugs in to 230 V like an appliance).
  • Victron SmartShunt 300 A to keep track of what goes in and out.
  • Room to grow: a spare MIDI fuse holder for more circuits, and a MEGA fuse holder ready for an inverter. M8 bolt terminals for the battery.

Exotronic say it handles solar plus DC-DC, or solar plus mains, at the same time, with a 100 A continuous rating. The board is 450 x 335 x 95 mm and 6.6 kg.

How much solar can it take?

Here the makers' numbers don't quite line up, so here are both. Exotronic say the SmartSolar on this board takes "up to 1200W". Victron rate the 100/50 at 700 W of panel nominal on a 12 V battery, and our solar guide explains what oversizing beyond that does. If you're planning a big array, size it against Victron's figures and ask us.

Who does it suit?

Good fit: a 12V setup (fridge, lights, pump, devices, maybe a diesel heater) that gets charged three ways: driving, sun and powered sites. You get the Victron chargers and the shunt without designing the protection and crimping the cables.

Not such a good fit: if you need 230 V off the battery, you'll be adding an inverter (the MEGA holder is there for it). If you only ever charge from solar, a single controller is far cheaper. Our DC-DC, solar or both guide helps you work out which sources you actually need.

The board vs buying the parts

Qty Part Our price each

1 Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/50 $224.95
1 Victron Blue Smart IP22 12/30 $224.95
1 Victron SmartShunt 300A $93.95
Board, 50A Noark PV isolator, MIDI and MEGA fuse holders, Anderson connectors, cabling, assembly and testing not on our store on its own
Parts total (listed parts only) $968.80

The whole kit: Exotronic - Noosa 50 Plus Series - Pre-wired Victron Board, $1,769.95.

The difference is the board, the isolator, the fuse holders, the plugs, the cabling and the assembly and testing. The pre-wired vs DIY guide goes through when that's worth paying for.
