Victron 50A Autotransformer: Split-Phase Balancing and Voltage Conversion

Step-Up, Step-Down and Load Balancing in 120/240V Systems

The Victron Autotransformer 120/240V 50A is a toroidal autotransformer for split-phase 120/240V installations. Used with a generator or stacked inverters, it balances loads across the two legs: any load unbalance is absorbed by the autotransformer, so a single-phase load can draw more of the available power.

How It Solves Real-World Power Problems

The autotransformer can also create the voltage a system needs. It can step up by doubling the incoming voltage for split-phase loads, or step down by decreasing the incoming voltage, for example to let a single-phase inverter use both legs of a split-phase generator.

Built-In Safety and Protection Features

An integrated ground relay creates the neutral-to-ground bond and can be controlled by a Victron MultiPlus or Quattro inverter/charger. If the autotransformer overheats it is disconnected from the supply: the fan runs and a red LED lights when it gets warm, and the MCB trips if it overheats. In case of over current the 50A two-pole input circuit breaker switches off.

50A and 100A Models

Victron makes the autotransformer in 50A and 100A versions. The pass through current is 50A and 100A respectively; the transformers are the same in both models.
