External Transfer Switch Current Sensing for Multi-Unit MultiPlus-II Systems

The Victron 400A:50mA Current Transformer is a split-core AC current sensor built specifically for MultiPlus-II and MultiPlus 20kW installations using an external transfer switch. In this topology, the external transfer switch takes over the role of each individual MultiPlus-II's internal AC transfer switch, and each phase's current transformer feeds current data back to the master unit on that phase so the system can detect whether AC input is available and control the external transfer switch accordingly.

One 400A Current Transformer is required per phase, connected to the master unit for that phase. Unlike Victron's 100A current transformers, which are used for general PowerControl/PowerAssist and self-consumption sensing, the 400A model is intended only for this external transfer switch application and requires compatible (s99) firmware. Correctly installed, it keeps features such as UPS functionality, AC input current limit, PowerControl and PowerAssist active across the multi-unit system.

This model is supplied with a factory-calibrated 10 metre wire-end cable to reach from the master unit to the external transfer switch enclosure. As with all Victron current transformers, the cable must not be extended or shortened, and the unit measures single-phase current only.
